From the recording Creoles Skies
Louisiana Girl - Johnny Ryan/Jeff Bostic/Scott Sharrard – The cheeky wish for this song is to become the “sister song” to “New Orleans Ladies” originally written by Hoyt Garrick & Leon Medica; Made famous by Louisiana's Le Roux, Tab Benoit & several others. It's a tribute to the women who make Louisiana the incomparable place it is. There's just something about women from this state. They have a rhythm, locution & Je ne sais quoi all their own.
- Johnny expressed, “I always hope the addition of saxophone, played by Craig Dreyer would hopefully give the listener an actual picture of said Louisiana Girl as she struts down the quarter or gives that confident smile as she passes you in the street car. During the recording session the phrase, “Salted Butta” was coined as Louisiana Girl was being tracked. It's just how we all felt the song felt...like salted butta baby! There was a serious debate as to whether we should have titled the album “Salted Butta”.
Lyrics
Down in the Bayou,
There’s a whole lot to love
From the food to the music,
it might be all you think of
But there’s just one thing
That pales from all the rest
It’s gonna float your pirogue
Make your heart beat outta your chest
Miss Louisiana,
Ya shake what yo mama, gave you so well
Miss Louisiana,
Work my heart, show me a whole new world
Well she might be
A New Orleans lady
A New Iberian Queen
A Carencro Princess
A pretty girl from Robeline
No it don’t really matter
From which Parish she stays
You're gonna have swamp water
Running through your veins.
Miss Louisiana,
Ya shake what yo mama, gave you so well
Miss Louisiana,
Work my heart, show me a whole new world
I said Down in the Bayou
There’s a whole lot to love
From the food to the music
It might be all you think of baby
But there’s just one thing
That brings it all around
Gonna float your pirogue
Lift your feet right off the ground
Miss Louisiana,
Ya shake what yo mama, gave you so well
Miss Louisiana,
Work my heart, show me a whole new world
Miss Louisiana,
Ya shake what yo mama, gave you so well
Miss Louisiana,
Work my heart, show me a whole new world
