This song was inspired through something that happens to almost all of us...You love someone, but they love somebody else and that person loves yet another. But music is always the vehicle to move one past these predicaments in life. And for Johnny, writing this song helped him move past his heartbreak and look towards a better future with this painful history in his rear-view mirror.
Lyrics
MY ONLY FRIEND
I can’t get home
I can’t see, the highway
There’s just too many tears
And fears, clouding my eyes
I said I love you woman
But you, you love him
And that’s why the blues
Have slowly become, my only friend
Lord you can’t fight how you feel
I understand, but it don’t make it feel better
When all I've done is pine
And grind toward makin’ you mine
And I hope you understand, that other man
Can never love like I do
But he’s gonna try and buy his way into you’re heart
And I’ve seen a locomotive train hit a truck
And split it in two
I seen a phillie, kick a man
And knock him out cold, oh so cold
But none of that comes close
To how it feels
To not have your love
And that’s why the blues
Have slowly become
My only friend
Said and that’s why the blues
Have slowly become
My only friend
Lord you can’t fight how you feel
I understand, but it don’t make it feel better
When all I've done is pine
And grind towards makin’ you mine
I pray you understand, that other man
Don’t even know your name
And that’s why the blues
Have slowly become
My only friend
Well,that’s why the blues
Have slowly become
My only friend
